Preparing to go door-belling for the election:
Dustin: opens car door and sits in passenger seat. Wait here just a minute. fumbling in pockets, reachs for door to get out again
					Me: Why?
Dustin: I'm going to stand outside. I'll be right back.
Me: Are you going to smoke?
Dustin: Yeah, it'll just take two minutes.
Me: We're in a hurry, can't you do it later? I don't want to sit around and wait for you to smoke.
Dustin: It's only two minutes. Just wait here.
Me starting to drive away: We really don't have time; you're leaving for Seattle in two hours anyway; smoke in your car. Besides, you just had one.
Dustin: Yeah, like two hours ago.
					Me: You'll survive.
Dustin: I'm going to have a cigarette at the first house I visit.
Me: Fine, whatever, I don't care what you do when we talk to people as long as we get it done.
					Dustin sits silent, looking grumpy
Me: Are you going to be pissed off just because you can't have a cigarette right now?
					Dustin: yeah
Me: That's such a stupid thing to get so upset about.
Dustin: Look, I have an addiction, if you had an addiction I'd respect it. You wouldn't tell someone addicted to food that they couldn't eat.
Me: Food: necessary to sustain life; Cigarettes: not.
					more silence and grumpiness
Me: how do you endure cross-country flights?
Dustin: I'm fine if I don't expect to have one, it just puts me in a bad mood when I'm expecting to have one and I can't.
Me: Look, it's not that big of a deal, if you want to smoke go ahead, I'd rather my car stink for a little while than you be in a bad mood the rest of the evening
Dustin: No, it's fine, I'm over it.
Me: Seriously, it's not that big of a deal.
Dustin: I don't want one anymore, I'm fine
					45 seconds pass in silence
Dustin: You're sure it won't bother you?
Me rolling down windows: go ahead.
					Dustin lighting cigarette: Thanks
