1. Plan your garden. It doesn't matter if it's winter. I did this in January after I found myself in a very screwed up situation. I just planned an indoor garden in a window.

2. Go to your local garden store or home improvement store. Have fun picking out interesting plants. If you've never gardened before you may want to buy "instant plants" or ones already sprouted rather than seeds.

3. Set up your garden.

4. Take care of it! Water your plants daily. Talk to them. Obsess over them.

5. Track them. Take a picture of them everyday to track their progress. If you want to get really fancy, you can set up your camera in one spot and take a picture at the same time everyday, and then animate the pictures so you can see your plants growing. You can post these pictures in a blog or paste them in a book.

Growing something feels good. You'll be surprised what joy you'll feel when they first sprout. You can't help but feel better when you see life resulting from your care.
