MOSTLY FEMALE PEDESTRIANS ENCOUNTERED AND AVOIDED ON MORNING COMMUTE Pedestrians, Most of Which Are Female, Continue to be a Factor in Morning Bicycle Commute, but Rarely Prove Disruptive to Cycling Progress.
7:30am: Boise, Idaho -- Daniel Foster's morning bicycle commute involves uneventful encounters with many other cyclists and pedestrians, and today was no exception. Over a dozen pedestrians, traveling in both directions, feature in his weekday commute.
Foster reports: "Occasionally, a walker will not be paying attention, and will stray across the center line. I have a bell on my bike, but I usually just say 'on your left' as I pass."
Foster says the pedestrians vary in age, but is unsure as to why most are female. "Plenty are college aged, but many are also older. I'd say at least 80% are women, and I don't really know why."
Foster says he looks forward to cycling to work every morning, and is happily anticipating tomorrow's commute, as well.
