Advice to Amy Zehner at Fourteen:
1) Be nicer to Ben when he takes you out on your date. You may think he's a dork, but you'll marry him someday. He won't be such a dork, and you'll be a whole lot nicer.
2) Don't drop out of choir just because of Mr. Harned. Singing is one of the things that will bring you the most joy in life--don't let him stop you. Plus, they'll hire Mr. Speiss who you'll love.
3) When you meet Bryan at the New Year's Eve party, give him a kiss at midnight, and let it end there.
4) Stop freaking out about God so much. It's not the biggest thing in your life, you don't need rules or people to tell you what to do or how to live. Follow your heart and to thine own self be true.
5) Amy, Tai, Scott, Kari, and Steve don't deserve to be put on pedastals. Their opinions and words shouldn't taint your self worth. 10 years from now, they won't matter at all.
6) You know those girls you're convinced you should hang out with? Heather, Tarah, Jessica, Emily, and Juley will just betray you. The girls you think are nerdy will actually be the best friends you could dream of.
7) When Dan Terry gives you that kiss at Paradise Island, it's OK. Enjoy the moment!
8) It's OK to be confused about Juley.
9) Watch what you eat, don't let food comfort you. You'll hate being overweight later on.
10) That acne, your clothes, your clarinet playing, your good grades, your kind heart--all those things that you think make your dorky--are OK. YOU are OK. Don't bother being envious of others. Just be you.
11) Don't lie to be cool. Your stories, your "crazy events" and everything else you fabricate don't make you cool or happy. In fact, you'll regret it later. Truth is much simpler.
12) Listen to your Mom and Dad. They know what they're talking about, and they love you more than you know.
13) It's OK to feel sad. Bug your parents to take to to see a psychiatrist. It's more than just hormones---you'll know that later. Don't be ashamed of your diasese. Depression and anxiety will not be fun, but you'll learn from them, and you'll use it to create and fuel your art.
14) Enjoy your time at camp. Even though you'll reject what they believe later on, the memories will be sweet.
15) WEAR YOUR HAIR CURLY. It's never going to be straight. Learn to love it.
16) Savor every sunset, be grateful for every new morning and drink in all of your experiences. Your life is a gift.
