Advice to Ryan Wilson age 15
1) Spend more time with your mother. She will be dead in 10 years of brain cancer. By the time she finally goes to the doctor there won't be much they can do. (you know how stubborn she is about her health) So why you will think that going out to take care of her will be a time to really get to know her, what is left of her brain after 2 surgeries, radiation and cancer won't allow much conversation. Do it now. Stop reading this and do it now.
2) While you don't want to, going to Virginia with your mom, sister and new stepfather is a good thing. See #1. You won't stay there long anyway, so make a few friends.
3) Don't beat yourself up when Heather dumps you. It really isn't you, it's her, believe me. Let her go. If not, you will carry the idea of fixing things between the two of you for a very long time. You will meet her again and carry those thoughts into another long, unfulfilling relationship.
4) If you like your hair long, keep it that way. It will fall out soon enough.
5) Don't believe the doctors. You are not depressed, you have a thyroid disorder. Don't take the pills they want to give you.
Advice to Ryan Wilson age 24
6) When you mother passes, tell your sister that she is a spoiled brat, tell Erin that she needs to shut up and keep her nose out of family business, and hire a lawyer to sue the builder of her house that took all of her money.
Advice to Ryan Wilson age 25
7) Your father is actually sorry for leaving your mom, but there isn't anything anyone can do about it. Stop punishing him by not showing up to plans you make and try to befriend him. He is actually more scared then you will ever be about being alone.
