Advice to Marie at the age of 4:
1.Don't let go of your heritage. Even though you were learning a different language that was compulsory to learn where you lived, that doesn't mean that you had to stop speaking your native tongue completely.
Advice to Marie at the age of 7:
1.Don't cry over something so small and trivial. It was just a colouring competition in your class. You made it to semi-finals and that's good enough!
Advice to Marie at the age of 8:
1.Don't blame yourself for your best friend moving out from the school and to another town. There were other reasons for him leaving.
Advice to Marie at the age of 9:
1.Don't think that acting like a complete idiot will get you friends. It gets you somewhere else: detention, bad marks, and your name on the teacher's hit list.
2.Be nicer to your sister. Stand up for her even. Don't trade your relationship with her for people who don't appreciate the sisterly bond between the both of you.
3.Don't take that piano recital! You'll fail, and suck, and die of sheer embarrassment.
4.Don't coax your sister to climb down the laundry shoot. You'll regret ever having doing that. Your guilt will engulf your mind and you'll never be let down of it.
5.Never climb those monkey bars! Period!
Advice to Marie at the age of 11:
1.Don't expect too much when things make you think: "It's too good to be true". Gina is NOT your friend! She'll use you and pretend you don't exist in high school.
2.Learn to be angry. Don't be so intimidated. Tell people how you really feel!
3.Don't go for the position of a 1997 Prefect. Decline Chia's offer and take that application for Library Monitor instead.
Advice to Marie at ages between 9-12:
1.Think for yourself! Don't rely on others to lead you. You have your own life to control. It doesn't belong to anyone else.
Advice to Marie at the age of 14:
1.Don't begin to neglect your second youngest sister. She is a treasure to you, and you know it!
Advice to Marie at the age of 16:
1.When a particular incident occurs, gossiping is never a good thing to exhibit. CJ will not be happy with you for the next month or so.
2.At the P.E. Camp, tie your LEFT FOOT with Janis during the three-legged soccer game. You're the one who sprained her ankle climbing down the mountain!
3.When you take the high ropes at the Crossroads Camp, don't let Fiona attach herself to you when you're over five metres above the ground. It's the most painful and frightening experience you'll ever have.
Advice to Marie at the age of 17:
1.Follow your own instincts on your interpretation of art. That's what art is about! Don't follow your teacher's ideas and allow her in charge of YOUR work.
2.Be more organised and stop floundering around with games all day. You have an important test that will determine your future by the end of this year, and you hardly know the mathematics!
3.Listen to your little sister when she tells you to do your maths homework.
Advice to Marie at the age of 18:
1.You're still young, but I'll be lenient. Stop your nonsensical infatuations! Your head rules those, not your heart.
