Advice to Michele Renee at age 17.
1. Graduation from high school is near. You should be thinking about what you want to do with your life.
2. Yeah, your parents have always told you that once you turn 18 that you're out of the house, but so what! It's time that you've started to make some serious plans about your future.
3. Try to envision what you want your future to be like.
4. You've always thought about being a nurse. Go check it out and see if that's what you really want to do!
5. So your boy friend just told you that he's signed up for the Marine Corp. and that he'll be going away for 4 years and now you're talking marriage?!
6. What makes you think you're even ready for that kind of responsibility?! Don't be so stubborn! Just because your mother got married and started having kids at a young age doesn't mean you have to do the same.
7. You're a strong person. Show some confidence. You can continue your education while he's away. You could always make plans to visit with him. Give yourself some time before making such a big decision. What's the rush?
8. Part of what I'm trying to say to you is that you're not as mature as you think you are. You have an identity to create. You don't know it yet, but you're going to find out that having your own individual identity is going to be very important to you.
9. I know that you're worried that you will end up losing your true love, but you know, if it is true love you should both be confident that things will work out.
10. Think of this separation as time for getting to know your selves. Think about life and what about it could make you thankful ever day that you are alive!
11. I'll support you in whatever decision that you make, just remember, you only live once!
12. Oh, and the other one that I like - that which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!
