Advice To Laure at Nine
1. Tell your dad how you feel, he is not the enemy, no matter what mom says.
2. Eat the Claussen Pickles that dad bought. Even if your mom can't afford to buy them, it doesn't mean that you have to deprive yourself or feel guilty.
3. Stop wearing keds, get some vans instead.
4. Your mom yells because she is angry, not because of you, leave the room and tell Carol, next door, what is going on.
5. Sign up for ballet instead of piano, you will like moving and dancing forever, you will play piano for years and never enjoy it.
6. Join a team, soccer maybe, so that you have structure. Do not spend hours and hours playing by yourself, you will never be quiet enough to not disturb mom.
7. Stop being jealous of Shauna and Jennifer, you've got a foreign dad on your side making you cool. Also you won't be stuck in Glendale forever, believe your mom when she says you're cooler.
8. Don't cut your hair off. Leave it long, maybe you can do shoulder length, but a bob won't do you justice, just calls attention to the buck teeth.
9. Stop matching your socks to your shirt, and don't ever wear more than one pair of socks at a time--even if they match your shirt and shorts.
10. Don't tell your mom that you love your dad more, even if you do. You'll never live it down. The momentary satisfaction is not worth it.
