advice to jessica at age 13:
1- don't buy those doc martens just because they're cool. they aren't even practical and you will get sick of them in a few months.
2- start practicing your mile run, as to avoid the embarrassing post-run puke that you will experience in high school volleyball practice.
3- invest all of your free time into something beneficial, like learning a new language.
4- save your first kiss for someone you care about.
5- listen to mirah, beck, and the decemberists more.
6- read some kurt vonnegut; but don't get prematurely cynical.
