To Hannah, age 13 1)Stop throwing away your underwear...having Mom find out about your period is not as bad as her being convinced that you are having sex and are, therefore, throwing all your "dirty" underwear away. Mom is crazy, but you need to deal with; it will save you a lot of grief in the end. 2)Don't let B.W. go, he is the closest you will get to true love for a very long time, never forget the way he treats you, never forget that that is how you deserve to be treated. 3)In your sophomore year, refuse to date J.B. after he cheats on you at prom. Teh realtionship will be a waste of time and end very badly, save yourself the trouble. 4)Go to B.V.'s viewing, you will always regret it if you don't. Get to the funeral early so that you can sit with the cast and not be stuck in the back of the church with Mom - you need them right now. 5)Don't waste your time visiting all those colleges, you're going to NYU and you're going to love it 6) Don't pierce your nose, please 7) You are not "nothing", you won't realize that until you leave the ones you love behind, but at least try to understand it now 8)Don't try to act "cool", you will come off looking snobby and stuck- up, and you will lose lots of opportunites for great friendships 9) Keep some of that hyper energy you have right now, you'll need it for later 10) Remember that I love you.
