advice to myself at age 21
*GO TO AUSTRALIA! Finish that study abroad application and get your ass out of the country. Go study photography and film down under. Do not stay in California and get academic panic. Theory and history are great, but all that book learning will not take you deep into the mystery of creation, which is where you long to live your life. You are as smart as you need to be.
*GO TRAIN HOPPING WITH BARB WIRE. You love her. She trusts her own intelligence and follows her gut in making things.
*TELL DRY EYE TO FUCK OFF. Dry Eye is estranged from life. He can't see how awesome you are. He is an arid path that leads away from the stinky watering hole that YOU LIKE, remember?
*DON'T STAY WITH ICICLE. You need to sniff the wind a little longer, get to know yourself, heal-not take care of someone else's needs: Icicle's needs, in fact.
*Take some time out to develop a relationship with yourself.
*Stop smoking so much weed. That habit will backfire on you big time later.
*Don't listen to mom when she tells you not to come out to your little sister. The little sister is smarter than any of you. She knows anyway. This will save you three years of anger, guilt and resentment.
*Keep taking art classes instead of all those academics!
*Go sailing more. You can always feel your soul real strongly when you go sailing.
