advice to matthew gottschalk at 13 years old
1. Don't kill the cricket on your pillow that wakes you in the middle of the night. regardless of the true after effects of this event, it will cast a shadow of what you interpret as bad luck for the next thirteen years of your life.
2. Don't lie to your parents and tell them what they want to hear because you feel scared of telling them that in actuallity you are a thirteen year-old kid, and they are adults, and there's no business making a thirteen year-old kid be the vessel of communication between two divorcing people behaving like irrational children. Telling them what they want to hear on both sides will only come back to haunt your family through litigation.
3. try not to take your friends very seriously, they won't be the friends you call thirteen years later.
4. your ideas are better than your friends, they only make fun of you because your trying to do your own things and not regurgitate guns n' roses riffs.
5. Don't stress about not having a first kiss yet. It'll happen in about six months at a violent femmes show and you're gonna be stoked.
6. Ignore your brother when it comes to music, Mr. Bungle rips.
