Advice to Diahann - Age 20
1) Don't believe what your father says about artists not making any money. Go to art school and not to university. If you give up on art now you will never get back to it and you will always feel that a part of you is missing.
2) If you decide to ignore the above piece of advice and do go to university, don't do television production, you won't really like it and will never work in the field. Instead do audio-visual production which will keep you working in the field of art and which you will end up doing one way or the other in every job you do after leaving university so you might as well get real training in it.
3) Don't give up your virginity to Gregg. He's a nice guy but you really don't love him. Your only having sex with him to see what's its like, not because you really have any feelings for him, and you will regret it afterwards.Ê There are a lot of other guys who will show an interest in you, trust yourself, and give them a try. You're too young to settle.
4) Be kinder to your sister, and try to get closer to her. Also try and find out as much as you can about her husband to be Len, because later they will move away to another country and you will never hear from her again and you will never understand why.
5) Start dieting; I'm really serious about this one. If you don't you will continue to gain weight and eventually it will be harder to lose and you will regret the time and effort you will have to expend
