Advice to Evie Davis, age 20
1) Enjoy the trip to Cali, don't worry about the sunburns, ride all the rides in Disneyland that you want to ride, and don't be afraid to kiss Aubrey in front of her mother.
2) Tell your parents what's in that box. You'll save yourself a lot of emotional pain and you won't lose the keepsakes you tucked away in there.
3) Don't stay overnight in St. Petersburg. I know you think it's a good idea now, but you and Lexa will be better off if you don't.
4) While in Cali, GET A JOB.
5) You're going to screw up, and you're going to cheat on Aubrey. Some things are unavoidable. But when she asks you about it the next day, DO NOT LIE ABOUT IT. She knows the truth, and you know she does. You will save yourself a shitload of pain if you just own up to it.
6) No matter what Jessica or Nancy say, you are not selfish, and you are not spoiled, and you are not talentless. Just because a couple of bitchy bitter women can't handle your decisions doesn't mean they're right and you're wrong.
7) A bloody lip is not always a bad thing. But then, you already knew that.
Advice to Evie Kobel, age 19
8) Don't be afraid of loving Aubrey. She'll stick with you through a lot of rough times and even when you screw up, and even two years after you start dating, you'll still be crazy about her.
9) It's alright to want to change religions. Just because you were raised Christian doesn't mean you have to be Christian forever. And just because your parents say your mission trips were all an act doesn't mean they're right.
10) Don't pick up that razor blade. I know it seems like it'll help, but it'll just cause a lot of pain.
11) You will survive waiting for your HIV test results, as well as spending a week at home after jaw surgery. Don't worry yourself until you can hardly function, it's not worth it.
12) Buy the rings. Propose. Be happy.
Advice to Evie Kobel, age 18
13) Michael is a nice guy. Don't be shy around him. He's a good kisser and a good boyfriend, and even if you're not really into boys he's a good first relationship to have.
14) Get the tattoo, and tell your parents proudly. You are an adult now, and you will love that tattoo even more when it turns out to perfectly represent where you came from and where you're going.
15) Go to RENT. Bond with Alex. Make friends with Beth and Aubrey. These girls will be your family before a year has passed - the sooner you get to know them, the more time you can spend with them.
16) Don't take everything your mother says about your girls to heart. She is stupid and has no idea what she's talking about. They are wonderful and will stick with you even after your FAMILY has fallen away.
17) Breaking up with Michael is not the end of the world. That being said, it's okay to be upset about it.
18) Kiss Aubrey in the parking lot of Starbucks. Kiss her until you're breathless, drenched by the rain, and late for work. If you don't, you won't get to kiss her again until her graduation a year later, and you will regret it for the rest of your life.
Advice to Lisse Kobel, age 16
19) It might seem like a good idea now, but running away, hitchhiking, and losing your virginity to the guy who picked you up are BAD IDEAS.
20) Don't tell your camp counselor about losing your virginity. She will call your parents and all hell will break loose.
21) You don't love Paul. You don't even LIKE Paul. Don't go to his house. Don't kiss him. And for god's sake do NOT sleep with him.
Advice to Beth Kobel, age 13
22) It doesn't matter if they like you or not - in a few years you won't remember most of their names, you'll have friends who care about you, and people will think you're fun, talented, and sexy. Yes, sexy. I know you're smart enough that looking forward will help you deal with day-to-day stress.
Advice to Elizabeth Kobel, age 10
23) Play with your little sister. By the time she's your age, you'll both have a lot of trouble getting along for any extended period of time, and you'll miss when she was little and worshiped you.
Advice to Elizabeth Kobel, age 9
24) Don't wear your Birkenstocks to the Kings Kids audition - you'll get in.
Advice to Rebecca Dawn Lee, age 4 days
25) Find a way to let the people adopting you know that you'd rather be a Rebecca than an Elizabeth, and that your Mama had the right idea. And then be yourself, as hard and as big as you can be, for the rest of your life.
