Advice to Dane, age 9
1. Give art school a serious chance. You are really talented, have confidence in yourself. Don't stop drawing.
2. Be sympathetic to Bran. His life is tougher than yours and you could cut him some slack. Stop being condescending towards him. He is not as stupid as you think, and he a good person to have on your side. If you continue antagonizing and belittling him, he will never open up to you and you won't realize how much you love him until you are 20 years old.
Advice to Dane, age 13
3. When mom asks you what you would think if she married Jim, tell it's a bad idea. She really hasn't made up her mind and she is seriously asking for your opinion. You can already tell he's a creep, so let her know. Maybe if she looks harder now, she won't waste 6 more years married to this guy before FINALLY divorcing him.
Advice to Dane, age 16
4. Stop running on pavement. It is weakening your bones. After training for 3 years, your leg with fracture in the middle of 3-mile race and you won't qualify for the state championship.
Advice to Dane age 17
5. DO NOT move in with dad. He may dangle lots of money and freedom in order to lure you in, but once you're in his home you'll see how abusive he and his wife are. After reporting him to DFS, you will be kicked out a week before graduation and you'll lose your car. Afterwards you will find out that he manipulated you in order to steal your mom's retirement fund. You will go two years without speaking to him. Once you finally contact and meet with him, you will realize you don't even know him and you don't care to.
Advice to Dane, 19
6. Just because someone asks you out doesn't mean that you owe them a date. Stop wasting time with people you aren't even attracted to. Seriously, have some self-respect.
