Advice I'd give myself in the past at 18
1. When Sim tries to justify why he won't introduce you to his Indian parents, don't give in and try to look all cool and happy about it. Stand up for yourself and tell him 'Hey, I'm gorgeous and you're damn lucky to be seeing me. So have some respect for both me and your parents, and be honest about what's going on'.
2. When Sim leaves don't feel sad and don't tell yourself 'I'll never meet anyone like him again'. Let go of him. There are plenty of other nice guys out there that will be interested in you.
3. Embrace the loneliness and the fact you have few friends to turn to. It will make you realise how great it is to have so many wonderful, warm and caring friends later on and you'll be able to empathize with others who are or who have been in similar situations.
4. Your high school friends don't understand the power and difference Landmark education can make. When Viv, Lana and Calli knock it by saying it's a cult, don't listen to that rubbish. You know what it has done for you. Your relationship with your mum, dad and brother wouldn't be like it is today without having done it. You wouldn't be as vibrant and excited about life without it.
5. At university in the first Australian legal system tutorial, when you give your self introduction about being able to change the world in some way and others being able to make a difference too, don't feel stupid for having said that and turn cynical and resigned like the lecturer. You've got spirit. She lost hers at some point.
6. When doing assignments for law and psychology stop telling yourself that you can't do it and that you don't belong at university. You are just as intelligent as the other students. Getting 60% on an assignment doesn't mean you're stupid.
7. When you walk into the gym and see the young gym instructor with the monobrow, don't talk to him. He will only make you feel like a desperate fool and he'll play games with you. You don't need him. He tries too hard to be cool anyway and is too negative and sarcastic.
8. Trust your gut feeling that law isn't for you. It's too dry for you and most of the people in the industry are too competitive and jaded.
9. At Jesses party, when the law student from UWA tells you with a smug smile there's a reason why you're not studying at UWA and you're studying at Murdoch, don't go into victim mode ('poor me, maybe he's right?'). Stand up for yourself and tell him he is an arrogant wanker. Remove yourself from the party situation too. He is not worth your time and energy.
10. Be there for your mum more. She is having a really hard time and feels alone and confused. Stop doing hanky panky with Sim and go home and connect with your mother. She'll always be there for you. Sim won't.
