To Catie at 16:
1. Did you ever think you would be where you are today? Did you ever think that all of your hard work and determination would pay off? It did. When you were 16, going away to college and being independent seemed like something that existed in another universe. Now, it's reality.
2. Let him go. It's so hard because it was like a fairy tale came true: you never felt good about yourself or how you looked, and then came along the most amazing, good-looking guy...and he paid attention to you. YOU! You thought that he could do no wrong. Now you know that he was no good, and he broke you. Although he hurt you, now you know that it was necessary to grow. The pain from losing him will not last forever.
3. Learn to love yourself for the inside, not the outside. A number on the scale will not make you happy. Losing weight will not do anything except slowly take over your mind and your life. You won't really, truly LIVE life if you're so focused on food and weight. In two years you'll see that all of your accomplishments of the past have come to a halt. You'll grow from this, but the eating disorder will stay with you for longer than you could ever imagine.
4. Appreciate yourself! You have a great personality and you are a truly kind human being. You want what's best for others, and that's a great quality to have. Not a lot of other people are so inclined to really care about others.
5. Remember that no matter what, everything will turn out ok.
