Advice to Carmelita age 16:
1. Insist on learning to drive. If you don't now, no one will ever teach you. Ask your dad, god mom or best friends parents. Be stubborn and don't worry about putting anyone out. If you don't insist, it wont happen for at least another ten years. And there are no flying cars, people are still driving on the road.
2. Be active. Take up kung fu again.
3. If you start bellydancing now instead of 3 years later, you will have the confidence to make your life much, much happier.
4. Be as honest with your friends as you can be, even if you feel like a dork. The people who are valuable to you love your dorkiness, and it actually helps them love themselves too.
5. Love yourself. Cuddle yourself.
6. Enjoy your time with Amy. Allow yourself to feel challenged by her and ask her for advice regarding time management. Don't stop being friends with her because your other best friend does. You'll need a break but make sure to keep in touch. Your feelings of love for her and competition with her will lead to choices which will make you very, very happy.
7. You are incredibly beautiful and smart as hell. high school boys wont get you, but I promise that when your 23 amazing and attractive men from all over the world will be falling in love with you. Never make out with someone who isn't amazing and attractive, ever.
8. Instead of working a restaurant job, do an internship at 911 media arts, kcmu, Richard hugo house or the nwfilm forum. These are the environments you should be in. Use your power to make your mom understand that this is whats good for you. She now has enough money to pay for your clothes and makeup. Don't let her temper tantrums make you feel bad. She'll have a lot more problems when your sister is a teenager- you'll seem like a saint in comparison.
9. Call grandma just to say hi. Stop by and visit.
10. Have fun. You don't have to like everyone, its okay to make fun of people sometimes. Party more, laugh more.
11. Your makeup looks great. You can allow your creative energy to extend infinitely beyond it. Draw, paint, and create. Never stop creating.
12. This is the hardest time, know that is just keeps getting better and better. Your parents are emotional teenagers and that's not your fault. Talk to your best friends parents. They love you.
13. See a therapist, but make sure that you really like them. Nothing is wrong with you, its just so that you don't forget to talk.
14. You will love your history teacher junior year. Talk to him after and before class. Tell him about your family and share any dreams you have about your future. He sees your intelligence, which is a very big deal. He could help you get into a good college. You will want to keep in touch with him.
