Advice to Debi Campbell at Age 11
1. Be angry and sad about Grandma s death. Don t hold it in or you will go crazy.
2. Don t be embarrassed or ashamed about having big boobs. The other girls really are just jealous and the boys are just idiots.
3. Tell an adult if a guy touches your big boobs. Those are your boobs, young lady. And Eric whats-his-face is not allowed to touch them much les think about them!
4. It s okay that you kneed Eric whats-his-face in the crotch after he grabbed you in the library, regardless of what Mrs. Johnson said.
5. I know everybody tells you girls are supposed to be quiet, nice, and reserved. Ignore that. Be loud, play in the dirt, speak your mind!
6. Ignore Bethany. She is actually a miserable person and doesn t deserve your friendship.
7. Don t try and grow up to fast. When Abby offers you that cigarette at camp say no. When Craig J. tries to French kiss you, say no. Just say no to a lot of things.
Advice to Debi Campbell at Age 22
1. You can t please everybody all of the time. And you will never please your mother.
2. When you see a girl with blue hair at the bar, DO NOT TALK TO HER! She will not set you free but will tear you down eventually.
3. Move to Portland with Emily or to NYC by yourself. Do not move back in with your parents, even if is just for 6 months to save money!
4. Call Tony before he joins the Army.
5. Do not, I repeat DO NOT, sleep with Lee. He will play you like Willoughby played Marianne and it will take you a year to get over it.
6. Don t be afraid of what others think of you. If you do, this will forever be greatest form of bondage and you will harbor many regrets.
