Advice to Caitlyn at age 13:
Look, moron, don't smoke. You hated it for years when your parents smoked. Take up knitting so you won't bite your nails either. But smoking ?!?! Just don't do it. It smells bad, tastes bad and looks ridiculous. If you just don't pick it up now, you won't struggle for years trying to quit.
Advice to Caitlyn at age 16:
Break up with Peter. It's the right thing to do. It's going to hurt like hell, but you'll feel better in the long run. It will take Peter years to figure out what he wants to do. You are too ambitious. Don't be so mean to your brother. You are so angry. Take yoga. QUIT SMOKING! Stop drinking so much. You'll feel so much better if you exercise and pick up a hobby. Be nice to Rania. She turns out to be one of the only people that knows you so well it's scary. She sees through all of your b.s. and you will admire her for it.
Advice to Caitlyn at age 17:
When Mom cries because you are going away to orientation, ask her to take off work and come with you. Tell her that you want her there. Sometimes she needs to know that you need her to be a mom and not just a friend. She forgets that she is your mother because you are so independent. And don't let her get away with just being your friend. You'll feel less resentful in the long run.
