Advice to Colby B. at age 21:
-Even though you're eligible for graduation, and even though you hate school, stay and do a double major. And a thesis. And study abroad. Don't worry about the money--if you graduate on time with the major you've got you won't be making any.
-Wait until you're seriously dating someone to have sex. It's completely worth it.
-Drinking is fun and all, but it's going to get to be a bit much after a while. And boring to boot. Just so you know.
-Denver gets cooler after a while, although if you move anywhere, you should go to Seattle.
-Don't do drugs. You'll be glad you never touched them.
-Stay in close contact with your Minnesota friends, and visit them often. Stay in touch with Adam Hammick, and go visit him after he moves to Japan.
-Alternate Christmases with your dad's family and your mom's. Write letters to your grandmothers. I mean it!
-Your extended family already knows you're queer, so deal with it.
-Don't go into retail full time, unless it's at ARIA.
-You're reading all the right books, and about to head down a spiritual rabbit hole which will change your life forever. Keep reading!
-Don't worry about your complexion because it'll clear up.
-Don't cut your hair, but don't be scared to cut it, either. Just know it's hell to grow back out, and won't happen again.
-Embrace being single and focus on your interests.
