Advice to Alyssa Antonelli the summer before High School
1. Don't try that first cigarette with Michael. Yes, he is your best friend but smoking with him will not help you hold onto your friendship. It will not make you cooler and preventing yourself from kick starting an addiction will save you a lot of money in the long run.
2. Don't chop off your hair into that pixie cut. You will wake up many mornings with an ugly, crazy mess. Do not dye it black. Your skin tone is too pale for this to be complimentary. You will look like death and it ll look awful while it s growing out.
3. Don't skip school that one day in eighth grade. It s not worth it. You will get caught and have to do a lot of explaining and penance.
4. Don't be such a cow to your mother about moving and switching schools. You will survive.
5. Don't get so caught up in angst and melodramatics. It will only make you (and everyone else around you) miserable.
6. Be nicer to yourself. You don t know everything or have it all figured out and that s ok.
