Advice to Alison, age 15
1. You should not worry about exercising as much as you do. Adam will not like you better if you go the gym a lot. You will become unhealthily obsessed with exercise and get sick.
2. Don't tell anyone that you hooked up with Adam.
Advice to Alison, age 17
3. Do not go to the mall with Jennifer and steal the shirts from the department store. The white shirt will have a tag on it when you walk out of the dressing room and the security guards will catch and handcuff you. Worst of all, you will have to face your parents and explain why you got arrested for shoplifting $500 worth of clothes.
4. If you choose to drink at Beach Week, don't do it on the night that Bryan is there. He will take your virginity and you will not remember it. You will not feel different in the morning, and will think that it is okay to sleep around with guys after that. Also, your friendships with Lisa and Sophie will need serious mending.
5. Do not tell Jenn where your spare car key is. She will take it, give it to Beth, and then Beth will steal your car and blow it up.
6. Even though your Mom doesn't open up a lot, doesn't mean that you can't open up to her. You messed up. Get over it, tell her your problems, and grow closer.
Advice to Alison, age 18
7. On the first day of college, do not attend a frat party with your new roommate. You will get drugged, get a concussion and break your tailbone, and wake up the next morning with no recollection of your night.
8. After your first date with Josh, don't let him stay the night. Do not get involved seriously. He will lie to you, cheat on you, become manipulative, controlling, and abusive. Those bruises are not normal. You are allowed to do things besides class and spending time with Josh. And you shouldn't bleed that much during sex.
9. Work at camp this summer in NY and pay extra special attention to the bald guy you meet on the last night. He will talk about Donnie Darko, and you will be interested. Talk to him more instead of hanging out with Lindsey. This guy will become one of your greatest loves. Savor those moments together at camp - you won't see him again for another 14 months.
Advice to Alison, age 20
10. Do not get involved with Kyle or Greyson. Especially not Kyle. They want to see you choose one of them. Tell Greyson that "no" means "no" and when he still tries to sleep with you, kick him out and never talk to him again.
11. Take a good look at the lifeguard at the pool where you take your kids that you babysit. He will one day be a guy that will like you and want to date you. He will also become controlling and violent. After seeing him at the pool, do not communicate with Jacob again. He really isn't that cute.
