1. When I die. Donate any usable organs to people who need them. Then cremate me, but cremate my feet separately. Sprinkle me off a bluff in Mendocino over the ocean, except for my feet dust; put that in a ziploc bag and give it to my mom. Then go borrow my favorite books from the library and sit together and read them for the rest of the afternoon. When you laugh aloud at a part, make sure and tell everyone what that part is.
Books to borrow: The Catcher in the Rye and Nine Stories (J.D. Salinger). Joyce Carol Oates' short stories. Alice Munro's short stories. Everything Will Be All Right by Tessa Hadley. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Steven Chbosky. Stephen Dobyn's short stories. The Color Purple by Alice Walker. The Hobbit. Steinbeck's The Pearl and Cannery Row. The Old Man and the Sea, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and the story A Clean and Well-Lighted Place by Hemingway. Read something funny too. Read some poetry by Edna St. Vincent Millay, Lucille Clifton, Julia Vinograd, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, Shakespeare, Albert Goldbarth, John Donne. and If you don't want to read any of these, then read your own favorite book.
If I end up being a suicide, don't take it personally; instead examine your sexuality and try to openly and shamelessly appreciate men and women. That would be a good way to leave things.
