To my family, friends and loved ones:
I'll admit that the drama queen inside me would love it if you all dressed in black for one full year after I died and refused to go out in public because it was just too sad. But really, here s what I want: Have a big-ass party.
Spare no expense. Make it the best damn party any of you have ever been to. Hire a band. Booze it up. Laugh loud and often. Eat way too much. Yellow cake with pink frosting would be a nice touch, but make sure there s plenty of chocolate, too. And there should be no wearing of black. Not even navy blue. Wear bright red and pink and yellow and orange all at once, if you must. Wear florals and stripes and plaids and polka dots. Put on strappy high heels and low-rise jeans. Look fabulous. Take pictures. Remember the day.
Before you go, haul my stuff out in boxes right there to the funeral and let people take what they want as a final parting gift. Whatever's left over should go to the homeless or a shelter or something.
When it's all said and done, don't put me in the ground. No tombstone, no plaque. Just ashes. And if it s alright, I would love it if some of you would volunteer to take me on one last road trip. The route is up to you. Make sure you hit some fun art spots along the way the Spiral Jetty, Double Negative, Lightening Field, Marfa, the Spoon Bridge and so on. End wherever you think you should stop I trust you completely to know when you get there. Spread my ashes. Say a prayer. And then go home and live your lives. Learn from my mistakes don t worry so much, be confident, enjoy where you are now.
Finally, just know that I knew I had an amazing life. I did so many things that I never thought I could because of your love and support. Thank you always for changing my life.
love,
daniel
