1. I started out eight and ended up nine
2. Acquired oval-shaped glasses with thick brown plastic frames
3. Peed my pants in front of my third-grade class whilst reading aloud to them from "Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great"--just kept my legs pressed tight together and hoped it would be gone by chapter's end
4. Was sent to Norwegian camp for the first time, where I joyfully assumed the name "Katrina"
5. Hung out a lot at my grandma's lake cabin in Bemidji, where I ate jelly beans, played make-believe games in refrigerator boxes, and read her Reader's Digest Condensed Books (my favorite of these being "Arnie the Darling Starling")
