1. After having only an outhouse for six years, my parents had a toilet installed in our house.
2. My teacher allowed a classmate to bring in and show Michael Jackson's Thriller video as a reward to our third grade class; I had not previously heard of the pop star.
3. That summer, to commemorate my coming of age, my mother finally let me get my ears pierced.
4. My grandfather unexpectedly gave me a cabbage patch doll; due to the expensive and extremely limited availability of these dolls, I had not even dared to ask for one.
5. For Christmas, I received my first pop-music cassette tape, Cyndi Lauper's "She's So Unusual", much to the envy of my fourth grade girlfriends.
