The scar is slightly to the left of my kneecap. It used to cover my entire knee but over the years has become smaller and smaller.

When I was 4 years old and in nursery school we used to have annual "penny hunts". We would follow clues around the playground until we found the hidden treasure. The day of the "penny hunt" I decided that I would wear my favorite shoes, which were Jellies. Note: These shoes are not made for running. As we were all running to our final clue (the sandbox where the penny treasure was) I slipped on a pile of rocks and ripped apart my knee.

I was taken to the ER and fixed up in no time. I remember crying a lot even though I couldn't feel the pain. My mom kept promising me Barbie Dolls and Ice Cream through out the whole ordeal (which I did receive). Over the years my Mom has always offered to have plastic surgery done to make the scar less noticeable. I love the scar. Every year when it because less and less visible I get a little sad. It's part of my childhood that I'm slowly growing out of.

"Children show scars like medals. Lovers use them as secrets to reveal. A scar is what happens when the word is made flesh."
