As a first grader I attended an after school program at a day care. The class was taking a mini hike through the woods to see this old mafia car: rusted out and sprinkled with bullet holes. As we headed back up past the chicken coupe (at the end of the most random "field trip" I have been on) I tripped over a railroad tie skinning my knees and scraping my hand. It wasn't the injury that stands out in my memory, it was that my teacher never came back for me, but one of the older kids did. She cared to walk back and fetch this crying six year old, and cared enough to be yelled at for giving a piggyback ride.
