When I was five years old I tried to run away from home, my tiny bare feet pattered against the concrete. It was summer, the sidewalks glittered as they baked in the sun, the heat scolded my feet as they made contact, I ran faster, trying to escape the burn. "Pat, pat, pat" my legs carrying me down the neighborhood street trying to escape without being noticed, "pat, pat, pat." They began to get away from me, "pat, pat, pat" they entangled, and I landed in a pile on the concrete, blood pooled on the surface of my knee and I had no other choice, the blood began to make its way down my shin as I walked back to my house. I said we were playing tag. I was crying, but it wasn't because of my knee.
